Ex-CEC Nurul Huda held by angry mob, taken to DB custody

Former chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda was held by an angry mob in the capital’s Uttara area on Sunday evening (June 22).

Md Mohidul Islam, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Uttara division, that the former chief election commissioner was held by an agitated crowd and was swiftly taken into police custody for his safety.

He has been handed over to the Detective Branch (DB), said the official.

A case was filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station against the former CEC, and he will be transferred to the police station from DB custody, he added.

Earlier in the day, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) filed a case against chief election commissioners and officials involved in the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections, accusing them of inaction and misconduct during those polls.

The 11th national election was held under CEC KM Nurul Huda in December 2018.
