Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Tuesday said that China is fully prepared to implement the Teesta multipurpose project for the conservation and management of the river.
He said that if the Bangladesh government makes a decision, China will be able to start the project work promptly.
The ambassador made the remarks while speaking at a “DCAB Talk” event organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
He added that China is ready to provide all kinds of technical and financial assistance for the implementation of the Teesta project. “The decision now lies with the Bangladesh government,” he said.
A comprehensive water management and infrastructure development project centring the Teesta River has long been in the planning stage. Although discussions have been ongoing regarding its implementation with Chinese funding, a final decision has yet to be made.
