TDS Desk:
Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of National Citizen Party (NCP), has applied to the Election Commission (EC) for a recount of votes in Dhaka-8.
He has also requested that the oath-taking of the elected MP be suspended.
In his application, he cited evidence of vote rigging, irregularities and illegal influence and presented details of irregularities at 12 polling centres under 11 specific points in the constituency.
The application written by Patwary and addressed to the chief election commissioner was submitted to the EC on his behalf by NCP leader Kazi Fakhrul Islam on Sunday.
He alleged that BNP candidate Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed along with his leaders, activists, agents and family members, engaged in vote rigging, influence, withholding of results and inclusion of cancelled ballots in the count.
He also claimed that, at one stage, the presiding officers of the concerned centres and the returning officer became involved in the alleged irregularities.
According to the application, these actions led to the BNP candidate being declared the winner instead of Patwary through manipulation and electoral malpractice.
The NCP leader urged the EC to take action in accordance with the law and relevant rules after reviewing the allegations.
