Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, the current vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) and a professor in the Department of Physics at Dhaka University (DU), is set to become the vice-chancellor of DU.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon confirmed the appointment at a press conference at the Ministry of Education today (16 March).

Meanwhile, Professor Mamun Ahmed, the current pro-vice-chancellor of DU, will assume the position of chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Earlier on 22 February, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan submitted his resignation from the post of DU VC to Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

A deputy registrar from the vice-chancellor’s office confirmed the matter.

However, no official reason had been disclosed for the resignation.
