Eleven children succumbed to measles and related symptoms across Bangladesh in just 24 hours, health officials confirmed on Saturday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that from 8:00 am on Friday to 8:00 am on Saturday (April 25), 1,058 children displaying measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide.

Of these, 229 cases tested positive through laboratory confirmation.

This latest wave brings the cumulative death toll to 42 children who have died from laboratory-confirmed measles infections across the country.

An additional 209 children have died while exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease.

Official data covering the period from March 15 to April 25 reveals that 4,460 measles cases have been confirmed through laboratory testing.

The total number of suspected cases identified nationwide now stands at 30,607, with 17,081 patients having recovered and been discharged following treatment.

Health authorities continue to grapple with the outbreak, which has placed significant strain on medical facilities across the country, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare remains limited.
