Shamima Parveen made first female SP of Dhaka, 8 more officials transferred

Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police (Education, Sports and Culture) Shamima Parveen at Police Headquarters has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dhaka district, marking the first time a woman has held the post in the district’s history.

The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the appointment on Thursday through an official notification. Deputy Secretary Tousif Ahmed signed the order on behalf of the President, which also detailed a series of transfers and postings within the police administration.

According to the notification, outgoing SP of Dhaka Md Mizanur Rahman has been transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), while Bagerhat SP Md Hasan Chowdhury has been posted to the Chittagong Range.

In their places, Shamima Parveen has been appointed as SP of Dhaka district, and Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar has been appointed as SP of Bagerhat.

Shamima Parveen joined the Bangladesh Police in 2006 and has served in various important national and international assignments over her 18-year career.

Among her notable achievements, she led the Female Formed Police Unit in Haiti under a United Nations peacekeeping mission, where she commanded a contingent of 139 police personnel. She also served as Assistant Commissioner at the Victim Support Centre of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, providing legal assistance and rehabilitation support to women and children affected by abuse.

Prior to her new role, she worked as AIG at Police Headquarters, where she oversaw development initiatives related to education and sports for the children of police personnel.

On Thursday, Police-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ issued separate notifications announcing a reshuffle involving eight senior police officers.

According to the notification, Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md Iqbal, who was serving as the Commanding Officer of Armed Police Battalion (APBn)-12, has been transferred to APBn-5 in the same capacity. Additional DIG Md Enamul Kabir of the Highway Police has been appointed as the Commanding Officer of APBn-12.

Meanwhile, Additional DIG Mohammad Sihab Kaisar Khan, commanding officer of APBn-13, has been transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Additional DIG Md Khalidul Haque Hawlader of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been appointed as Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), while Additional DIG Mohammad Kamruzzaman of RAB has also been posted as Joint Commissioner of DMP.

In other changes, Deputy Police Commissioner Md Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan of DMP has been transferred to the River Police as Superintendent of Police. Superintendent of Police Md Mokbul Hossain, commandant of the Satkhira In-Service Training Centre, has been appointed as Commandant of the Kushtia In-Service Training Centre. Additionally, Additional Superintendent of Police Nusrat Jahan Mukta of APBn has been transferred to the Special Branch (SB) as Additional Superintendent of Police.
