Bodies of 2 missing madrasa students recovered from Jamuna in Kazipur

The bodies of two madrasa students, who went missing while bathing in the Jamuna river near number-6 boat ghat under Nishchintapur union of Kazipur upazila in Sirajganj district on Thursday morning, were recovered at noon, police said.

The deceased were identified as Junayed Hossain, 13, son of Jahangir Alam of Bhadra Shimul village in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail district, and Arifur Islam, 11, son of Abdul Halim of Katanga village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.

According to local sources, three students of a local madrasa went to take bath in Jamuna river at around 10:00am. At that time, Junayed and Arifur were swept away by the strong current of the river and drowned. Another student who was with them somehow managed to swim to the shore.

On receiving the information, local fishermen cast a net in the river and searched. Later, the bodies of the two students were recovered from the river at around 12:00pm.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kazipur Police Station SM Mostafizur Rahman said that, two madrasa students drowned while taking bath in the Jamuna River. Upon receiving the news, police from Natuarpara outpost and naval visited the scene.

The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. The atmosphere became heavy with the wailing of the family members of the two deceased students.
