Raiganj Correspondent:

A youth was stabbed to death following a dispute over the World Cup football match in Kalinja village under Pangasi Union in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj.

The deceased was identified as Md. Ilyas Khan, 26, son of Abdus Sattar Khan of the village.

According to local sources, the incident took place at around 10:30 pm on Sunday (July 19), when Russell and his son Siam Ahmed of the same village engaged in an altercation with Ilyas Khan over the ongoing World Cup football match.

At one stage of the altercation, Russell and his son Siam stabbed Ilyas with a sharp knife. After the incident, Ilyas was rescued in a critical condition and died on the way to hospital.

Md. Zahurul Islam, Member of the local Union Parishad confirmed the matter to the journalists.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raiganj Police Station Md. Ahsanuzzaman said that, police went to the spot after receiving the information and started investigation. Legal action would be taken after completion of the investigation.

After the incident, the accused Russell and his son Siam went to absconding.
