Kamalganj Correspondent:
Rail services to and from Sylhet have been suspended after seven coaches of the Chattogram-bound Paharika Express became detached when the coupling hook of the train’s engine broke in Lawachara forest in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar on Friday.
The incident occurred around 1:30pm while the train was climbing a steep section of the railway track through the forest.
According to Bhanugach Railway Station sources, the intercity Paharika Express left Sylhet for Chattogram at 1:06pm. As it was climbing the hilly section inside Lawachara forest, the engine’s coupling hook suddenly broke, causing the seven rear coaches to become detached.
Train services on the Sylhet-Dhaka and Sylhet-Chattogram routes have remained temporarily suspended following the incident.
Bhanugach Railway Station Master Gouraprasad Das Palash confirmed the incident, saying repair work began soon after the news was received.
“Efforts are under way to complete the work quickly and restore rail communication,” he said.
