Police have arrested journalist Mrinal Sarkar Milu from his residence in Tarash of Sirajganj in connection with a case involving alleged assault and attempted murder during the July student-led mass uprising.

He was arrested on Friday afternoon (August 14) from his home in the Barowari Bottola area of Tarash municipality. Milu serves as the Tarash upazila correspondent for the national daily Daily Protidin er Songbad.

According to police sources, an arrest warrant had been issued against Milu by the court in connection with a case filed over attacks and attempted murder during the July-August movement. Based on confidential information, police conducted a drive and took him into custody.

Confirming the arrest, Imam Jafor, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarash Police Station, said, “Mrinal Sarkar Milu was arrested pursuant to an outstanding arrest warrant. Following standard legal procedures, he will be produced before the court with a request for jail custody.”

Meanwhile, Milu’s family has strongly refuted the allegations, labeling them false and politically motivated. Family members claimed, “He is not affiliated with any political party. He has been practicing professional and unbiased journalism for a long time. A vested group has framed him as part of a conspiracy.”
