Detective Branch (DB) of police and Raiganj thana police in two separate drives arrested two persons including a journalist in connection with a case filed over attacking on the car of VP Aynul Haque, Parliament Member for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) Constituency.

The arrested are Golam Muktadir, General Secretary of Raiganj Press Club and also Member Secretary of Raiganj Municipal Sechchasebok Dal and Alamgir Hossain.

Saiful Islam Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj confirmed the matter to the journalists and said, “DB police picked up journalist Golam Muktadir, one of the accused from his resident, while Raiganj thana police arrested Alamgir Hossain from a cafe in front of Dhangora Women College on Sunday. Later, they were sent to jail after producing before a court in Sirajganj on Monday. At that time, the court also granted bail to four of the accused.

Earlier on Saturday last (August 15), the car of VP Aynul came under attack and vandalize at Dhanghora Baza’ar area in the upazila. After the incident, local BNP leader Shamimul Hasan filed a case with Raiganj police station in this connection accusing 40  persons including 10 unknown people.

Local journalists’ leaders condemned the arrest of journalist Muktadir and protested the incident.
