A court in Sirajganj on Tuesday sentenced two persons including wife of the victim to life term imprisonment for killing a Jubo Dal leader.

The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each.

The convicts are Umme Jamila Tithi, wife of the victim Selim Reza Sujon and daughter of Golam Rahman of Atua-house Para village in Pabna district and Monirul Fakir, son of Billal Fakir of Maghla village in Shahzadpur upazila of the district.

Begum Laila Sharmin, Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 in Sirajganj handed down the verdict in presence of one accused, while another was absconding, said Shamsuzzoha Shahanshah, APP of the court.

According to the prosecution brief, the accused hacked Selim Reza Sujon, former Organizing Secretary of Municipal Jubo Dal to death after feeding him sleeping pills on June 2, 2015.

Later, victim’s mother Mazeda Khatun lodged a case with Sirajganj Sadar police station in this connection accusing four persons including his wife Tithi.

During the verdict, the court also acquitted two accused as the allegations brought against them were not proved.
