Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has said journalists and media outlets should be allowed to work freely rather than being subjected to government control.

He made the remarks on Sunday (23 August) during his first meeting with officials and employees of the ministry at the Secretariat after taking charge.

Andaleeve Rahman Partho arrived at the Secretariat at 8:20am and exchanged greetings with officials and employees. Later, at 9:30am, he held a meeting with ministry officials at the conference room of Building No. 6, where he was welcomed with flowers.

“Good work by the government must be communicated to the people,” he said.

“At the same time, we must further strengthen the relationship between the government and the people. The ministry also has a responsibility to give due importance to the country’s culture, values, religious values and the spirit of the Liberation War,” he said.

The minister said the current government had assumed office at a difficult time in the country’s history.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is making every effort to serve the country. Mistakes may occur while working, but the government remains firm on matters of ethics,” he said.

Andaleeve Rahman Partho said the Prime Minister’s directive was to serve the country and give the highest priority to the interests of the people.

“Media is one of the most important pillars of democracy. The media also played an important role in the struggle to establish democracy over the past 17 years,” he added.
