A 60-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Friday afternoon after being struck by a car carrying State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari in Bogura’s Shibganj upazila.

The deceased Firoza Begum, 60, was a resident of Gopinathpur village in Kichak union.

The tragic accident occurred around 9:00 am on the Mokamtala-Joypurhat road. State Minister Abdul Bari was traveling from Dhaka to his Joypurhat-2 parliamentary constituency.

According to Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinuzzaman and local witnesses the minister’s vehicle hit Firoza as she was crossing the road in the Gopinathpur area.

Following the collision the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and plunge into a roadside ditch.

State Minister Bari sustained minor injuries in the crash. He received basic first aid at the scene before continuing his journey to Joypurhat in an alternative vehicle. His wife who was traveling with him was unharmed.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali stated that Firoza Begum’s body is currently at the hospital morgue. Police are in contact with her grieving family members to determine the subsequent legal actions.

Meanwhile, local authorities have used a tow truck to recover the minister’s damaged vehicle from the ditch.
