Sirajul Islam Shishir:
An accused escaped police custody on Thursday morning by shoving an officer and jumping from the second-floor balcony of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building in Sirajganj.
The incident occurred at around 11:30 AM right outside the courtroom jail facility.
The fugitive has been identified as Abdul Momin, 22, son of Abdus Sabur from the Kobdaspara in Sirajganj town.
According to court sources, Momin was brought to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court from the district jail for a scheduled hearing in a theft case. Following the court proceedings, officers were escorting him to the second-floor holding cell. As an officer attempted to put handcuffs on him, Momin pushed the officer aside, leaped off the unsecured second-floor balcony, and fled the premises.
When approached by journalists immediately following the breach, on-duty police personnel initially declined to comment.
Later in the afternoon, Sirajganj Court Inspector Rowshan Yazdani confirmed the escape, explaining that the suspect was brought from jail and held at the magistrate court cell for his hearing. He added that, joint operational teams from Sirajganj Sadar Police Station and the Detective Branch (DB) of Polioce have launched drives to recapture the accused, and legal action regarding the security lapse is currently underway.
