Russel Rana, who received bullet hit injuries during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, is on way to lose his sight due to lack of proper treatment.
He can’t continue his better treatment for want of adequate money as his poverty stricken family was dependent on his income. Now, they are leading miserable life, family sources claimed.
Russel Rana, 24, son of late Belal Hossain of Kumajpur village under Nalka Union of Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj district used to work in Gazipur.
On August 4, he took part in the student-public movement and received rubber-bullet injury on his eyes. He was admitted to Mirzapur Eye Hospital, where he received surgical operation. But, his condition deteriorated further. Later, doctors advised him to take treatment at abroad. But, he could not carry the better treatment cost due to lack of affordability.
Victim’s mother Jharna Begum said, “His left sight is going to damage day by day due to lack of proper and better treatment. But, we can’t do anything for him for want of necessary money. Not only that, I can’t carry the expenditure of my family as he was only one source of income for my family members. Now, we are being neglected by the society and facing immense suffering along with the sick son.”
“If someone lends helping hands to us, our family would be able to survive,” she added.
Nahid Hasan Khan, UNO of Raiganj said, “An application seeking assistance has been submitted to the office on behalf of Russel’s family. We will take necessary steps as soon as possible after discussing with other concerned officials.”
