As Bangladesh are set to travel to India next week for a two-Test series, speculation is rife about the results of the remaining matches and how the race to feature in next year’s ICC World Test Championship (2023-25) final shapes up.

On home soil, India are nearly unbeatable. India have ten matches remaining in the current cycle with half of them to be played at home.

Besides hosting Bangladesh, India will also welcome New Zealand in October. So, the advantage is clearly in favour of India.

Bangladesh need to do well in the away matches in India and Sri Lanka and then hold off a resurgent England at home.

Bangladesh’s journey to India buoyed by their dominating performance against Pakistan recording their first ever Test series against that country.

Bangladesh started the campaign for the World Test Championship with a victory over New Zealand in Sylhet, though dropped 12 home points with a defeat in the second match of the home series in Mirpur.

True, Bangladesh lost against Sri Lanka at home but the inspiring series clean sweep of Pakistan has injected a new life in their campaign.

Much will depend on Bangladesh’s two home Test matches against South Africa in the days ahead and how the hugely competitive battle between Australia and India in a five-match series is played out.
