Sports Desk:
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to raise players’ match fees across all three formats, with a particular focus on Test cricket. The move is aimed at encouraging players to prioritize the longest format of the game while ensuring that financial incentives reflect the demands of international cricket.
Under the revised structure, the match fee for a Test match will increase from Tk 6 lakh to Tk 8 lakh, underscoring the BCB’s commitment to promoting red-ball cricket. Test cricket traditionally struggled to retain players’ interest amid the rising popularity of shorter formats.
In limited-overs cricket, the match fee for One Day Internationals (ODIs) has been increased from Tk 3 lakh to Tk 4 lakh per match, while for T20 Internationals, it has been raised from Tk 2 lakh to Tk 2.5 lakh.
The BCB’s decision aligns with global trends, as cricket boards worldwide seek to balance financial incentives with the sustainability of Test cricket. With franchise leagues offering lucrative contracts, the increase in match fees could help Bangladesh retain its top players for international commitments, particularly in the Test format.
