BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday said the party is looking for a suitable venue near Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and Evercare Hospital to hold a reception for acting chairman Tarique Rahman upon his return.

Salahuddin said Tarique is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on December 25 via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines commercial flight.

“We want his historic return to go beyond all examples in the last 55 years of Bangladesh’s history,” he told reporters in front of the party chairperson’s Gulshan office.

The BNP leader said that they are inspecting several locations to decide where a reception can be held without causing public suffering, adding that the media will be informed about the flight’s landing, movement from the airport, and his planned visit to Evercare Hospital.

Salahuddin said BNP has been coordinating with the authorities and that security arrangements are being discussed separately with relevant government offices and divisional heads.

“We are getting cooperation from the government,” he added.

Salahuddin said the party has also issued instructions to its district, upazila and union-level leaders and activists on travelling to Dhaka by December 24 night or December 25 morning.

BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said activists are working to ensure a historic public gathering.
