Police recovered the body of a 3-month baby from a pond in Subornasara village in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district on Sunday.

In accordance of the victim’s mother information, body of the infant was found in the pond of Hazi Ali Ahmed in the village. In the preliminary stage, police suspected that, the ill-fated baby was killed or thrown into the pond water by his mother, who had been suffering from mental disease for long.

The 3-month old victim Mohammad Ali was son of Ishak Ali of Tamai Kaliyapara village in the same upazila. His mother Moniza had been living at Subornasara village with her parents for last few months centering delivery of the baby.

Being informed by locals, police reached to the spot and recovered the floating body from the pond.

Victim’s father Ishak Ali has filed a case with the respective police station in this connection.

Jakeria Hossain, Officer in Charge of Belkuchi police station told The Daily Sky that, “We are carrying investigation to find out the real fact. We have a doubt about the infant death. We want to know who has behind the killing of the child, only victim’s mother or any more others.
