Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said there is no shortage of oil in the country, alleging that some people are engaged in unethical business practices that have created the current situation.

He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while addressing a programme at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium in Thakurgaon town.

The event was organised for the rehabilitation of families affected by cyclones and hailstorms, as well as the distribution of corrugated iron sheets, cheques, and allocation letters for the development of various social and religious institutions through the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and the District Council.

Fakhrul said the Iran-United States conflict had affected the entire world, but it had not created any supply problem for oil in Bangladesh.

“There has been no shortage in supply. This problem has been artificially created. Some people have started unethical business practices, which have become harmful to the country and the nation,” he said.

He alleged that certain traders were selling oil on the black market and warned that such activities would not be allowed to continue.

The minister said the administration had already been instructed to take strict action in this regard.
