Former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder’s tax records have been ordered to be seized by a court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Thursday to seize his tax documents, following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also set January 29 as the date for a hearing on whether to show him as arrested in his presence.
A production warrant was issued to ensure his appearance in court.
The petitions were submitted by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya.
According to the petition for seizing tax records, Sadhan allegedly acquired assets worth Tk25.34 crore, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
He is also accused of suspiciously transacting Tk43.04 crore across 65 bank accounts.
These acts allegedly involve money laundering and concealment of illegally obtained wealth, violating the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
On December 19, a case was filed against him.
To ensure a proper investigation into his disproportionate assets, the ACC requested the seizure of all relevant tax documents from the beginning until the 2024–2025 tax year.
The petition to show him as arrested argued that if Sadhan Chandra Majumder were to be released on bail, there is a risk he could transfer or conceal his assets and bank funds, potentially obstructing the investigation.
On October 3, at approximately 8:30pm, Sadhan Chandra Majumder was apprehended by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
Following his arrest, he was placed on remand and is currently in custody.
