COVID deaths in country soared five times

Bangladesh today reported five deaths from Covid-19 while it recorded 614 coronavirus-positive cases during the period.

The official tally showed that the virus killed 29,345 people and infected 20,18,829 so far.

This was stated by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a routine daily statement of Covid-19 on September 20.

The current Covid-19 positivity rate stands at 12.73 percent as 4,825 samples were tested during the last 24 hours, the statement said.

The total detection rate since the onset of the pandemic is 13.61 percent.

In the last 24 hours, the combined figure for coronavirus infection in Dhaka district and the capital is 494 during the period.

The recovery count rose to 19,61,260 after another 283 patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the last 24 hours.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 97.15 percent of Covid-19 patients recovered among infected people while 1.45 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.
