A devastating fire broke out in a trawler carrying oil drums in the Buriganga River at Fatullah in Narayanganj.
The fire broke out in the oil-tanker trawler in the Buriganga River near Meghna depot jetty at 1:30 pm on Wednesday (June 26).
The oil drums were exploded due to the fire spread several kilometers.
This spread panic among the people living on the river and banks. After receiving the information, several teams of fire service are trying to control the fire.
Meghna Depot DS Ziaur Rahman said that they were going to Barishal’s Manpura in this oil-tanker trawler.
“There were 4 people inside the trawler. They were cooking inside. At this time, fire may occur from there. One of them managed to reach the shore but the rest are missing,” said depot officials.
It is learned that the trawler had 86 drums of petrol and 70 drums of diesel. Almost all the oil drums exploded in the fire.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service Fakhruddin said, “I cannot say anything at the moment. We are trying to control the fire. Details will be given later.”
“We spoke to the concerned people of the depot. As far as we know, the trawler was loaded with diesel and petrol. At that time, I heard that 4 workers were cooking on the oil-tanker trawler. The fire may occur due to this,” said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Didarul Islam, who came to the spot, adding that one person has been taken to hospital and the rest 3 are still missing.
