BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said development would be his main focus if he is elected in the upcoming national election through the people’s vote.

He made the statement while talking to reporters after submitting his nomination papers to the Thakurgaon district returning officer Ishrat Jahan on Monday afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul said the people of Bangladesh have regained their voting rights and noted that the next parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on 12 February next year. He said he has been nominated by the BNP to contest from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.

Expressing gratitude to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman, he said they had once again given him the opportunity to contest from the constituency.

“If we are elected with the people’s support, we will prioritise the development of the Thakurgaon region,” he said, adding that improving infrastructure, strengthening educational institutions, enhancing the social environment, expanding economic activities and creating employment would be key objectives.

He also pledged to address the problems faced by farmers, saying their issues would receive special attention.

Appealing to voters, Mirza Fakhrul urged the people of the constituency to support him as they had in the past and to cast their votes in favour of the BNP in the upcoming election.
