The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued instructions asking motor vehicles plying in Dhaka city areas not to use high-pitched horns.
A notification in this regard was issued by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali at night on December 12.
The notification said that if any motor vehicle driver, owner, or operating organisation fails to comply with the instructions after the publication of the notification, stern actions will be taken against them.
The DMP has sought cooperation of all concerned to this end.
Severe health hazards are being created for pedestrians, passengers, other vehicle drivers, city dwellers, and especially sick people due to the use of high-pitched horns, the notification said.
The DMP has requested the motor vehicle drivers not to use high-pitched horns in line with the provisions of section 45 of the Road Transport Act-2018.
Motor vehicle drivers, owners, or operating organisations are also requested not to install or reinstall any device, part, or horn that creates noise levels beyond the prescribed noise level.
Moreover, as per Rule 81 of the Road Transport Rules 2022, instructions have been given not to install or use any multipurpose horn that emits different tones in succession or any horn or device that produces a sharp, harsh, sudden, loud, or frightening sound in a motor vehicle, it added.
