“Drastic action would be taken, if any irregularity is found in Upazila Parishad polls. No anomaly will be tolerated, if the candidate is influential, rich or huge muscle power holder. The candidature will be cancelled, if any allegation against any candidate is proved before publication of the gazette. The polls will be free, fair and transparent. It will also be participatory by all,” said Begum Rashida Sultana, Election Commissioner (EC) of Bangladesh Election Commission. She came up with the remarks, while addressing a view exchange meeting with the election candidates held at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Auditorium in Sirajganj town yesterday (Friday) morning.
She further said, “We want to see a participatory election amidst a sound and healthy environment. This is why, ensuring safety for all including voters is the first priority. If safety is ensured, the election will be festive. Consequently, all concerned should work together to make a healthy environment for the upcoming upazila polls.” During the programme, Anisur Rahman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bangladesh Police, Delwar Hossain, Regional Election Officer in Rajshahi, Mir Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Arifur Rahman Mandal, Superintendent of police (SP) in Sirajganj among others were also present in the event. The programme was presided over by Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, Divisional Commissioner in Rajshahi.
