Staff Correspondent: The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved eight projects of Tk 4,826.21 crore.

The approval came from the ECNEC meeting with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair held at the NEC Conference Room in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area yesterday.

The approved projects are – “Upgradation of four district highways to proper standard and width” project under Cumilla Road Department with estimated at Tk 1,023.52 lakh. Galachipa Bridge will be constructed on Barnabad river at the 70th kilometer of Lebukhali-Baufal-Galachipa-Amdagachia district highway. The cost has been estimated at 521 crore 26 lakh taka. Road Transport and Highways Department/Dhaka Transport Department has taken up the feasibility study of metro rail project in Chattogram. The cost of ‘Transport Masterplan and Preliminary Feasibility Study for Urban Metrorail Transport Construction of Chattogram Metropolitan Area (CSA)’ project has been estimated at Tk 70 crore 63 lakh. The cost of the Coastal Town Climate Tolerance Project has been estimated at Tk 2,580 crore. These four projects are new.

Four other projects approved by ECNEC have been modified. The four project are – ‘Establishment of Third Submarine Cable to Expand Bangladesh International Telecommunication System at Tk 362 Crore 7 Lakh, The Prison Security Modernization, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Chattogram Division project of Tk 17 crore 98 lakh, the The National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Development Technology Infrastructure Development (Info-Government 3rd Phase) project of Tk 101.94 crore and Strengthening Nutrition and Food Security through Agricultural Development project at Tk 148.81 crore.
