A Dhaka court on Saturday sent former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar to jail in the case of attempting to murder a businessman named Imrul Kayes Faisal during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Zakir Hossain passed this order on Saturday (November 2). On this day, the investigating officer of the case requested to keep the accused in jail by presenting him before the court.
On the other hand, the lawyer of the accused appealed for bail and advance treatment. After the hearing, the court ordered to send Sadhan Chandra Majumdar to jail. At the same time, the court ordered treatment for Sadhan Chandra as per prison rules.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar on the night of October 3 from Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka. The next day, the court granted a seven-day remand to him in the murder case filed at the Tejgaon police station.
Noted that businessman Imrul Kayes Faisal was shot and injured in the Beribandh area of Mohammadpur police station on July 19 during the student movement. He filed a case at Mohammadpur police station on September 26 after receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical.
184 people including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader were accused in this case.
