Former Supreme Court justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has been transferred to Sylhet Central Jail after being discharged from the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

On August 24, Manik was physical assault by a group of lawyers and unidentified individuals on Sylhet court premises when he was being taken to the court.

After being taken to jail from the court, he fell ill in the evening and was admitted to the hospital.

Prof Shishir Ranjan Chakrabarti, president of the medical board, said after a thorough examination, the medical board, which was formed for his treatment, decided to discharge him from the hospital. Later, completing all preparations, he has been handed over to the jail authorities.

He said that Manik had a heart problem and underwent bypass surgery 10 years ago. He also has diabetes and high blood pressure.

Earlier, on August 23, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained former justice Manik while attempting to flee to India through the Jakiganj border area in Sylhet. He was later handed over to Kanaighat Police Station the next day.

On the same day, a Sylhet court ordered him to be sent to jail.
