A case was filed in Sirajganj accusing 47 persons including former Parliament Member of Sirajganj-2 Constituency Habib-a-Millat Munna, former upazila Parishad Chairman Riaz Uddin, former Municipality Mayor Syed Abdur Rauf Mukta and former District Muktijodya Sangsad commander Bir freedom fighter Shafiqul Islam Shafi for killing of a BNP activist about 10 years ago.

Rozina Khatun, wife of the victim Jahangir Hossain lodged the case with the administrative court of Kamarkhanda on January 26.

The court also asked Kamarkhanda Thana police to submit the report after investigating into the matter.

In the case, 42 persons have been accused with the names, while rest others were made accused as unnamed.

SM Nazmul Islam, Lawyer of the plaintiff confirmed the matter to The Daily Sky on Tuesday.

According to the allegation, a political dispute had been going on between the victim-Jahangir Hossain, son of Late Delwar Hossain of Tetulia village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila and the accused for long due to refusal to pay demanded toll.

Centering the feud, Jahangir was abducted with a microbus on January 30, 2014, while he was returning to home from Dhaka. After the incident, Nabidul Islam, Chairman of Sayedabad Union Parishad and General Secretary of local Union Awami League demanded Tk 15 lakh as ransom from the victim’s wife Rozina.

The plaintiff Rozina in her complaint mentioned that, she paid Tk 10 lakh to Nabidul Islam in two phases respectively on February 7 and 9 in 2014. Though, the miscreants received the money, they did not release Jahangir at all.

On February 15, 2014, police recovered the body of Jahangir from a ditch nearby Jhaoil Bridge in Kamarkhanda upazila of the district.

After an inquest report of the body, police confirmed that, he was shot to dead and hacked mercilessly until confirmation of death.

Police however, at that time submitted final report over the case and declined to record new case over the murder of Jahangir against the accused due to political influence.

After about 10 years of the incident, the victim’s wife has become able to lodge the case with the hope to get fair justice, she said.
