A case has been filed against former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque Mujib, his wife Hanufa Akter, former MP of Cumilla Sadar A K M Bahauddin Bahar, his daughter and former mayor Tahsin Bahar Sujana, and 133 others, along with 300 unidentified individuals, following the attack and shooting incidents in Alekharchar and Cantonment areas in Cumilla during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
The case was filed by Kazi Md Sohel, son of Abdul Karim of Alekharchar in Cumilla, at the Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station on Thursday night.
Inspector Shiben Biswas of Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station confirmed the filing of the case.
Among the accused are business leader Atique Ullah Khokon, former chairman of Burichong Upazila Sajjad Hossain Swapan, former chairman of Brahmanpara Upazila Mehrab Hossain Opi, former vice-chairman of Sadar Upazila Ahmed Niaz Pavel, and leaders and activists from the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, including city councilors and union chairmen.
The complaint alleges that over 300 accused individuals, armed with firearms, explosives, machetes, and chisels, attacked the complainant and other quota reform protesters under the orders of the first and second accused, with leadership from the third accused. The attackers fired bullets and hurled bombs at the protesters. The accused chased the protesting students up to the cantonment area, and the 33rd and 34th accused fired at innocent students with their licensed pistols and shotguns. The complainant was shot in the head and collapsed on the road. The 12th accused then assaulted him multiple times on his chest and head.
