The fire caused significant damage, destroying idols and worship materials at both temples Miscreants are alleged to have set fire inside two temples in Kashiani, Gopalganj, in an overnight attack.

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday in the Tarail Northpara village of Fulkra union, Kashiani upazila.

The fire caused significant damage, destroying idols and worship materials inside both temples. The identities of those responsible remain unknown.

Upon learning of the incident, Kashiani Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Farjana Jannat, Additional Superintendent of Police (Muksudpur Circle) Md Abdul Bashed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shafiuddin Khan, UP Chairman Shah Ishtiaq Patto, and Union Land Officer Nazmul Hasan visited the scene to assess the damage.

Promoth Biswas, who conducts daily worship at the temples, described his shock upon discovering the damage.

“I went to the temple for my usual morning prayer on Tuesday and found the bamboo door open,” he said. “Inside the Durga temple, I saw that the worship materials had been burned. Additionally, the statue of Shitala Devi in the nearby Shitala temple had been set on fire using straw. I immediately informed others about the situation.”

Kashiani police station OC Mohammad Shafiuddin Khan confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation would be conducted.

“I visited the site after receiving the news, and we are taking legal action,” he said. “However, as of now, no one has filed a formal written complaint.”
