The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has entered the field to investigate the allegations of illegally acquiring wealth by Md. Matiur Rahman, an official of the National Board Of Revenue (NBR), recently came to a discussion about the ‘goat scandal’ during Eid-ul-Azha.

The ACC sources say that “four rounds of teams were formed” in the last 18 years to investigate the illegal assets of this high-ranking officer, who was recently discussed in the country in the incident of purchasing a goat worth Tk 12 lakh. However, the complaint ends each time “mysteriously”.

It is learned that the first investigation team against Matiur Rahman was formed around 2000. Matiur was the assistant commissioner at Benapole Port Customs in 1996 and 1997. At that time, he was accused of reckless bribery and corruption. The ACC then closed the complaint in 2004 after hanging up the investigation for a long time.

After that, investigation teams were formed against Matiur Rahman in the same manner in 2008, 2013 and 2021 on the charge of building wealth of at least tens of thousands of crores of takas in the country and abroad, and he was given a “clean certificate” after closing the charges three times.

Matiur Rahman has now become a member of NBR from Customs’ assistant commissioner. Allegedly, he is one of the stock market regulators! He is known as a ‘Gambler’ to market people.
