In response to the Jatiyo Party’s planned protest rally tomorrow, the Fasibad Birodhi Chhatra Sramik Janata — a platform mostly comprising leaders and activists allied with Nurul Haque Nur — has announced its own “mass resistance rallies” in front of JP offices across the country.

Bin Yamin Molla, president of Dhaka University’s Gono Odhikar Parishad, declared that the counter-protests would begin at 11:00am in front of Jatiya Party offices nationwide.

Molla made the announcement at a press conference held at the Dhaka University Student-Teacher Centre this afternoon.

Molla accused the JP of being a close ally of the Awami League. He demanded that the government ban JP, arrest its leaders, and prosecute them for supporting the AL during the mass uprising.

“I do not understand how the police can permit a rally for the Awami League’s ally,” Molla said. “Do they want more bloodshed? … We are prepared to make sacrifices, as we did in July and August, but we will not allow the Jatiyo Party to hold political programmes in this country.”

He further demanded that the interim government clarify its position regarding the AL, JP and other like-minded parties, questioning if it intends to hold elections alongside them.

“We do not want the Awami League, Jatiyo Party, or any of their allies in parliament,” he added, accusing the Jatiyo Party of attempting to reinstate the Awami League through political maneuvers.

Meanwhile, Mashiur Rahman, an organiser with Fasibad Birodhi Chhatra Sramik Janata, alleged that JP and AL supporters attacked their peaceful programme yesterday near a JP office, injuring him and others.

Mashiur, also a member of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, said they have no connection with the fire attack at the JP office.

“Following the attack on us, agitated people set fire to the Jatiyo Party office,” he claimed, countering accusations by JP Chairman GM Quader that he and Molla were involved in the fire attack.
