The government has set an ambitious target of sending approximately 1.4 million Bangladeshi workers to various countries across the globe in the upcoming fiscal year.
State Minister for Overseas Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare, Nurul Haque Nur, shared this information on Monday during the second session of the 13th National Parliament.
While delivering a statement on behalf of Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, the State Minister responded to a query from Dhaka-1 MP Khandaker Abu Ashfaq. The session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal.
According to the data presented in Parliament, a total of 933,815 Bangladeshi workers secured overseas employment between July 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026.
The State Minister emphasized that the government is working relentlessly to expand overseas employment opportunities by focusing on sending skilled and professional manpower abroad.
Furthermore, efforts are underway to reopen and expand labor markets that are currently closed or restricted for Bangladeshi workers.
State Minister Nur noted that diplomatic and bilateral negotiations are actively ongoing with the governments of Malaysia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain to resolve these issues and secure more jobs for the Bangladeshi workforce.
