The writ was filed on May 17
Court Reporter:
The High Court has summarily rejected a writ petition seeking a probe into the 18-month tenure of the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
The order was issued on Thursday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.
Senior lawyer MK Rahman and petitioner’s counsel Mohsin Rashid appeared in court for the writ petition, while Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajol represented the state.
Earlier, on May 17, a writ petition was filed seeking an inquiry into the activities of the interim government led by Professor Yunus over 18 months.
Speaking about the petition, lawyer MK Rahman said the writ sought an investigation into alleged disorder across various sectors during the 18-month period, including the economy and healthcare.
He argued that a commission of inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956, was necessary to prevent any future elected government from being overthrown.
Lawyer Mohsin Rashid said the petition called for a comprehensive investigation into all developments, with the method of inquiry to be determined by the government.
He added that the attorney general had said he would seek instructions from the government, and that the petitioners also expected him to do so.
