BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the ice in relations with India has started to break.

He said this to ANI, a news agency of India, after meeting with Indian High commissioner in Bangladesh Pranay Verma.

According to the report published in ANI, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), one of the largest political parties in Bangladesh, believes that relations with India have ‘started to melt’ after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in a student-mass coup and the assumption of interim government.

It also said that the recently appointed Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Verma met with the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP office to discuss the ways to strengthen the ties.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “The meeting with Prannoy Verma has taken both countries in a very positive direction. Ever since the last election in Bangladesh, there have been questions about our relationship. But this time the situation has certainly improved with the arrival of the High Commissioner (of India) in our office. The ice has started to break.”

He further said, “India and Bangladesh have always had very good relations and relations have improved, too. Of course, this is also a turning point in India-Bangladesh relations.”

His party has assured India that if it comes to power, it will not allow separatist organizations to use the territory of Bangladesh.”
