A report published by the Indian news outlet India Today claiming that Bangladesh has deployed Bayraktar TB2 drones at the Bangladesh-India border is false and fabricated, said the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on December 7.
Quoting a defence ministry spokesperson, the wing in its CA Press Wing Facts page on Facebook wrote, “Bangladesh has not deployed any drones, apart from its routine activities, in any parts of the country.”
“This news is part of an orchestrated campaign against Bangladesh,” wrote the wing.
India Today published one report yesterday (6 December) and another today claiming Bangladesh deployed the Turkey-made Bayraktar TB2 drones on the border with India.
Yesterday’s report, titled “Bangladesh deploys Turkish drones near the border, India on high alert: Sources,” quoted Indian Army sources and said, “India has intensified surveillance along the Bangladesh border amid reports that the neighbouring country has deployed Turkey-made drones near West Bengal.”
Today’s report, titled “What’s Bayraktar TB2 drone deployed by Bangladesh and is India prepared?”, started with the history of the drone being used in modern warfare.
It also claimed these drones “are operated by the Bangladesh Army for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.”
Neither of the reports quoted anyone other than the “sources”.
