Bangladesh Bank has granted preliminary approval to four digital banks in the country. These banks are bKash Digital Bank, Boost-Robi, Digital Banking of Bhutan-DK, and Nova Digital Bank-Banglalink and Square.
The Letter of Intent (LOI) for these four proposed digital banks was approved during a meeting of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Bank on Thursday (September 24).
According to central bank sources, 12 institutions had applied to establish digital banks. These include British Bangla Digital Bank PLC, Digital Banking of Bhutan-DK, Amar Digital Bank-22 MFI, 36 Digital Bank PLC, Boost-Robi, Amar Bank, App Bank-Farmers, Nova Digital Bank-Banglalink & Square, Moitree Digital Bank PLC, Upokari Digital Bank, Munafa Islamic Digital Bank-Akij, and bKash Digital Bank.
