A discussion meeting was held at the Shaheed AK Shamshudding Conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sirajganj on Tuesday marking International Day of Older Persons.
Officers and members of different government and non-government organizations including District Administration, Social Service Office, Veterans Benevolent Association (Prabin Hitaishy Songha) and other registered volunteer organizations took part in the programme at around 10:00am.
The programme was presided over by Ganapati Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) in Sirajganj, while Mohammad Habibur Rahman Khan, Deputy Director of District Social Service Office (DSSO) delivered his welcome speech in the beginning of the meeting.
Md. Akhtaruzzaman, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO), Monirul Islam, Assistant Director of DSSO, Abul Hashem, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Arshad Ali, President of Prabin Hitaishy Songha’s district unit and Abdullah Al Farukh, General Secretary of the organization spoke on the occasion.
Ganapati Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner said, “Elderly men are not burden of our society. We must ensure their rights in which they can live safe and happily in the society. Taking care of their health is highly important among other rights. There are about 1.5 crore elderly men in the country. The number may cross 2 crore by 2025 and 4.5 crore by 2050. There are many things to learn from elderly men. They have greater contribution in building the country. So, we should respect them.”
