The government will not provide any opportunity to legalise undisclosed wealth in the proposed national budget for the FY2026–27, Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni has said.

“The FY2026–27 budget will not include any provision for whitening black money,” the chief whip told reporters while speaking at a briefing at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday (10 June) evening.

Moni said the upcoming budget would focus on protecting low-income and vulnerable groups.

He also said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had informed lawmakers during the budget session that the government would pursue ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards corruption.

Highlighting the government’s development priorities, Moni said plans had been taken to excavate more than 20,000 kilometres of canals over the next five years to improve water management and support agriculture.

In addition, the government aims to plant 25 crore trees during the same period as part of a nationwide afforestation programme aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and increasing forest coverage.
