Allegations of various irregularities, including coming down the pace of work, are increasing in the Jamuna Oil Company due to the assignment of six responsibilities to an official. As a result, dissatisfaction is increasing day by day.

Sources said that, an official named Md. Masudul Islam is lonely handling several important responsibilities in the state-owned-Jamuna Oil Company. Recently, he was given the routine responsibility of the company’s Managing Director (MD). As a result, the development is being hampered, insiders claimed.

Before this, Masudul had been served as General Manager (Human Resources and Marketing) and Company Secretary. Currently he is also serving as the convener of Bitumen Allocation Committee and Chamber Allocation Committee.

Questions have arisen both inside and outside of the company over the fact that these most influential responsibilities of the Jamuna Oil Company are being conducted by one official.

Concerned people and officials said on condition of anonymity that, the peak bitumen season is ahead. That is why, Masudul has kept the responsibility related to bitumen on his own hands.

However, despite repeated attempts to contact him on the phone to get his comment on this matter, he could not be reached.

Later, questions were also sent on WhatsApp regarding irregularities and complexity of responsibilities, but no response was received.

Recently, the incident of the disappearance of about four and a half lakh liters of diesel from the government depot in Fatullah of Narayanganj came to light.

The information about the theft was detected during the re-calibration of tanks number 22 and 23 of the depot.

For a long time, the diesel was shown less by manipulating the calibration sheet of the tank and looting was done on that occasion for years.

After the matter came to light, Jamuna Oil formed a six-member probe body on September 28 last. Their report revealed that, millions of liters of fuel oil were embezzled by deliberately showing the capacity of the tank as less.

On the other hand, Jamuna Oil Company’s CBA President Md. Abul Hossain was arrested on July 20 from the Cement Crossing in the EPZ police station area. He is still in jail in a vandalism case. However, despite being in prison, he was shown presence in the office for 20 consecutive days until August 9.

According to the rules, if a government employee goes to jail, he should be temporarily suspended, but in this case, that did not happen. Questions have also been raised about the anomalies.

Sujon’s Chittagong division general secretary Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury said, “When an officer handles so many responsibilities at once, it is natural to occur irregularities.”
