Despite BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s return home from Evercare Hospital on Wednesday, her health remains a concern, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday.

Speaking to journalists at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Fakhrul said, “Begum Khaleda Zia is not well. Her body temperature was high yesterday (Friday).”

When asked about the possibility of taking her abroad for advanced treatment, Fakhrul explained that doctors currently do not consider her fit to travel, which is delaying any plans for overseas medical care.

Khaleda Zia, hospitalised for six days, returned to her Gulshan residence on September 18. Although discharged from the hospital, she continues to receive treatment at home under the close supervision of her medical team, led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder.

The former prime minister has been battling a range of serious health issues, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, and complications affecting her kidneys, lungs, heart, and eyes. Her doctors have recommended sending her abroad for treatment since her diagnosis with liver cirrhosis in November 2021.

Last October, a team of US specialists performed the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure to address fluid accumulation and liver bleeding. Additionally, a pacemaker was installed in her chest on June 23 to manage her heart condition.
