Local government elections will begin in January next year and will be completed nationwide by June 6, 2027, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives Meer Shahe Alam has said.

He made the remarks while interacting with reporters at the Kurigram Circuit House on Wednesday morning.

“The government is fully prepared to hold local government elections. Beginning in January next year, the polls will be held in phases, with the target of completing the entire process by June 6,” the state minister said.

Emphasizing the government’s stance on electoral integrity, he said the government would not bear the responsibility of any controversy or wrongdoing, as it is committed to holding free, fair, and credible elections.

Addressing the ongoing situation regarding fertilizer distribution, Meer Shahe Alam called it a conspiracy by a specific political party. He alleged that incidents of fertilizer looting and artificial shortages are being staged in constituencies held by opposition MPs to tarnish the government’s image.

He added that the government is actively working to ensure farmers face no confusion or shortage regarding fertilizer, and any irregularities or mismanagement in local distribution will be investigated.
