In a major reshuffle in the police administration following the fall of the Awami League government, some 55 police officers, including three additional inspectors general of police, have been transferred.
Besides, three senior police officers have been sent on forced retirement.
The Public Security Division issued separate orders on Tuesday to this end.
Additional IGP and Special Branch (SB) chief Monirul Islam has been sent on compulsory retirment after being attached to the Police Headquarters while Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Railway Police Md Shah Alam made SB chief (current charge).
Former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman has also been sent on forced retirement.
Additional IGP of the Police Headquarters Tawfique Mahbub Chowdhury has been named the chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) while Mohammad Ali Mia from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been reassigned to the Police Headquarters.
Besides, one DIG, seven additional DIGs, 17 deputy commissioners, 12 police supers and 18 officers-in-charge of police stations of Dhaka have been transferred.
DIG of Rangpur range Md Abdul Baten and Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner (RMP) Md Moniruzzaman have been sent on forced retirement over the killing of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur student Abu Sayed in police firing.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued separate circulars on Tuesday to this end.
Both police officials were sent on retirement under Section 45 of the Public Service Act 2018 (57 of the 2018 Act
The move was taken in the public interest, according to the circulars.
Baten and Moniruzzaman were serving as DIG of Rangpur range and RMO commissioner respectively when Abu Sayed was killed in police firing on July 16 during the quota reform movement.
