The court has postponed the submission of the defence in the case against actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alishan Chowdhury over allegations of threats, setting a new date for 12 January.

The hearing had been scheduled for Thursday at the Dhaka 3rd Executive Magistrate Court, but due to the recent transfer of the presiding judge, the defence could not be submitted.

Consequently, the court has fixed 12 January for the next hearing.

The defendants’ lawyer, Tuhin Hawladar, confirmed the development, stating, “As the presiding judge was recently transferred elsewhere, it was not possible to hold the hearing on the scheduled date. In line with standard court procedures, a new date has been set for the submission of the defence.”

According to the plaintiff, through a longstanding acquaintance, Mehazabien Chowdhury was promised to make him a partner in her new family business.

Over time, he paid a total of Tk 27 lakhs in cash and via bKash.

However, Mehazabien and her brother allegedly failed to initiate the business, repeatedly delaying repayment.

The complaint states that on 11 February, when the plaintiff requested the money, he was asked to meet them on 16 March at a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road.

Upon arrival, Mehazabien, her brother and four to five unidentified individuals allegedly verbally abused him, warning, “Don’t come to our house asking for money; if you are seen near our home again, we will kill you.”

The threats prompted the plaintiff to approach the relevant Bhatara police station, where authorities advised him to file a case in court.

Subsequently, the plaintiff Amirul Islam filed a criminal case under the Executive Magistrate Court procedure.
