Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has announced that the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have joined the Jamaat-led eight-party alliance.
Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday afternoon (28 December), the Jamaat chief described the move as timely amid “a critical phase in the country’s national life.”
He said, “The seat-sharing agreement is nearly finalised, and the remaining nominations will soon be submitted. We remain optimistic about the process.”
Shafiqur Rahman said through discussions and negotiations, an agreement has been reached on several seats.
“While more parties have expressed interest in joining the alliance, such an arrangement is not possible at the moment,” he added.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, LDP Chairman Col (retd.) Oli Ahmed, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Presidium Member Ashraf Ali Akon, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, and other leaders were present at the press conference.
With the joining of NCP and LDP, the number of parties in the alliance has increased to 10.
