TDS Desk:
The number of e-tax returns submitted for the 2024-2025 fiscal year has surpassed 50,000 as of Wednesday, according to a report by the National Board or Revenue (NBR).
In an effort to simplify the process of tax filing and compliance, NBR launched its online return submission system on 9 September, 2024. Since then, over 50,000 taxpayers have filed their returns through the system.
During a press conference held at the NBR building in Agargaon, Finance and Commerce Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed expressed optimism that around one million taxpayers would submit their tax returns online for FY25.
He added that many taxpayers prefer online filing as it avoids face-to-face interaction with tax officials and eliminates potential harassment.
The e-return system allows taxpayers to file returns, pay taxes via internet banking, debit or credit cards, and mobile banking. It also provides features for downloading and printing submitted return copies, acknowledgment receipts, tax certificates, and Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs).
NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan stated that the board is committed to transitioning all transactions into digital formats to ensure swift and high-quality services for taxpayers.
The e-return service centre will operate from 9am to 5pm on working days, offering instant telephonic support via the helpline number 09643 717171.
Additionally, taxpayers can report any issues through the NBR website’s eTax Service option and receive written solutions.
