At least three persons were killed and five others injured in a head on collision between a passenger bus and an ambulance on the Dhaka-Pabna highway at Koroitola area in Ataikula upazila of Pabna district.
The deceased were identified as Salim Pramanik, 70, his wife Buli Khatun, 55, of Mahmudpur village in Santhiya upazila and ambulance driver Raz Hossain, 35, of Uttar Shalgaria village in Pabna municipality.
The injured were admitted to Pabna General Hospital. Of them, the condition of Naznin Khatun, 40, Riad Sardar, 17, and Nafiz Uddin, 8, is stated to be critical.
Police and eyewitnesses said, the accident took place at around 7:30am, when a Pabna bound bus of Pabna Express coming from Dhaka collided head-on with an ambulance carrying the body of a child named Keya, who died at a hospital in Rajshahi.
The bodies were sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was lodged with the respective police station in this connection.
